This workshop will address a set of practical strategies for effective involvement in the public process and present a series of case studies that demonstrate how these tools can best be used. Participants will gain practical insights on effective communications with state and federal elected officials at critical times in the decision-making process. Participants will hear how they can take on an even more active role in the fight to increase funding for diabetes research, screening and prevention through developing relationships with decision-makers. The workshop will also include a discussion on how to get their message across to other influential groups - such as the media – and learn how to make the most out of technology to influence public policy.
