Key Steps to Implementing a New Physician into the Regional Registry

Kelly M. Ogden, Information Systems, UHPCC, One Broad Street Plaza, Glens Falls, NY, USA

KEYWORDS:
Immunization, market share, software, security, regional server, communications.

BACKGROUND:
The foundation to the state immunization registry is the regional servers that pass data to the state registry. The regional goal is to have 100% participation in each of the counties serviced. To do so, in light of the initiative being non-mandated, requires a sound software package and sound protocols being followed to bring a new physician on board. The software needs to be presented in a manner that proves the benefits to the prospective physician. Once the physician agrees to come on board, whter are many factors to take into consideration before the system is "live". Such as: hardware compatibility, communications, security, consents, training, etc. Adhering to established guidelines and protocols to address each item, in a team approach, guarantees a smooth and successful implementation.

OBJECTIVE(S):
To support the statewide system; steps will be taken to strive for 100% participation in the counties represented by the regions. A system will be provided to the physicians that not only pass data to the regional and state servers, but also help the physician address day-to-day needs.

METHOD(S):
Working with the state and public health departments to identify new physicians that are non-participants in the program and to successfully bring the said physicians into the program.

RESULT(S):
Physicians have steadily been added to the program. Data has successfully been transmitted to both the state and regional servers.

CONCLUSIONS(S):
The regions will work to obtain the 100% market penetration for each county and will pass data to both the state and regional servers in a consistent, secure and reliable manner.
