Learning Objectives for this Presentation:
By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:
•Identify key stakeholders associated with an Immunization Registry Project.
•Describe the outcome of both a positive and negative liaison with a stakeholder.
•Apply these lessons learned within respective registry environments.
Background:
During the planning phase of the Kansas Immunization Registry Project, a great deal of effort was expended in researching and identifying all stakeholder groups. Targeting interested and enthusiastic stakeholders is not the most difficult of the specific challenges associated with a project such as this. Far more difficult is strategizing to sustain positive relations during periods of stakeholder hesitancy.
Setting:
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment Immunization Program is working with many of the characteristic registry stakeholders. The presentation will present examples of our successes and the steps that we have taken throughout the entire process of establishing positive working relationships.
Population:
All stakeholder groups for whom the Kansas Immunization Registry will significantly impact the way they do business.
Project Description:
All participants are presented with actual behavioral responses from Kansas's stakeholders. We will identify and describe stakeholders' initial level of “enthusiasm.” We will then describe strategies employed and any evident behavioral changes after an ongoing relationship had been established.
Results/Lessons Learned:
While deploying a statewide multimillion-dollar system is never easy, it has been our experience that designing and building the system was readily achievable. However it was realized that the real challenge lies in establishing and maintaining successful relationships with stakeholders.
