Finding a Common Denominator - Survey Methods in Large and Diverse State

Learning Objectives for this Presentation:
By the end of the presentation participants will be able to 1) understand how to use Census data 2) learn how to document surveys 3) learn tips for improved survey research.

Background:
California is geographically as large as Maine to Georgia, with a total of 36 million people, including 3 million children 6 and under. This presentation will cover the use of US census data for denominators. It will also go over survey techniques to facilitating data entry and consolidating the regional registries data into one statewide report.

Objectives:
By the end of the presentation participants will be able to improve survey instruments, understand US Census data, and know documentation requiremed for reproducible results.

Methods:
Annual Immunization Registry Annual Report, twice-yearly Registry Updates, and other surveys.

Results:
Summary reoprts for California as a whole, as well as the independent Regional Immunization Registries. Consistent denominators for California Counties, Regions, and for the entire state.

Conclusions:
Attention to creating the survey instrument, documentation, and record keeping can improve results and make summarizing the data a faster and smoother process.
