Background:
In 2003, New Mexico ranked 49th among states for childhood 4.3.1.3.3 coverage. This status caught the attention of the newly elected New Mexico Governor and First Lady who decided that New Mexico could do better. The Governor allocated $400,000 to the NMDOH to improve childhood immunization coverage. Among other initiatives, the Shots on Time Project was born.
Setting:
Private immunization provider offices
Population:
New Mexico children ages 1-3 years of age seen in private practices.
Project Description:
The Immunization Program contracted with nurses to
provide on-site training, chart assessment, recall, and recommendations for improvement in large private practices with low immunization rates.
Results/Lessons Learned:
CASA coverage and system based change at 1 year post intervention will be discussed.
