In this panel presentation, representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and from collaborating organizations will present key results from online and social media activities used in 2009 and 2010 public health emergencies, including the 2009 H1N1 flu event. Specifically, presenters will discuss metrics and lessons learned from core activities representing three essential dimensions of social media: the selection of channels and dissemination of messages, the technical aspects powering the channels, and the valuable public-private partnerships that increase the dissemination of information. Results and conclusions from this panel have the capability to shape future use of electronic media for widespread disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.
