Background:
The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) represents the interests of over 200,000 women's health and neonatal nurses working in inpatient and outpatient settings. The nurses we serve are ideal communicators of preconception and interconception health messages. AWHONN promotes women's and infant's health through policy and advocacy work at state and national levels. AWHONN's practice resources, publications, conventions and website inform and update nurses on issues of critical importance to our specialty including preconception and interconception health. The public places a high level of trust in nurses and in response AWHONN created a nurse-authored consumer publication with the holistic approach and preventive care emphasis that are hallmarks of nursing practice.
