The Consensus Framework for Advancing Public Health Informatics is intended to guide coordinated action across the public health enterprise. The goals, objectives and sample strategies will help ensure public health agencies are full participants and valued partners in improving population health through effective use of health IT and health information exchange. This panel presentation will give the participant the opportunity to identify priority action for building capacity in their own agency.
The Consensus Framework is intended to guide concerted, coordinated and unified action across the public health enterprise. The Framework is intended to help ensure that public health agencies are full participants and valued partners in improving population health through effective use of health IT and health information exchange (HIE). The Framework was developed by the Joint Public Health Informatics Taskforce (JPHIT), a consortium of seven public health associations committed to joint policy action to advance informatics. The Framework consists of four overall priority goals for the public health enterprise, each with related and actionable objectives. It also includes example strategies that could be undertaken at the national level (CDC and associations), as well as strategies appropriate for local and state health departments. The panel will highlight key aspects of the Framework, and engage participants in discussions of current capacity to achieve the goals and objectives, as well as identifying additional strategies.
