This session will present findings from two initiatives – the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report and the e-Public Health Initiative on the public health need for more consistent population health status measurement and for a broader range of health indicator data, and the future role of public health informatics in meeting these needs. This will be followed by a discussion of the automated disease surveillance collaborative among CDC, an LHD, and a University partner that shows the steps required to move from current practice to future standards to achieve the measurements recommended by the IOM.
