To assess Public Health needs in the ONC Standards and Interoperability (S&I) Framework initiatives, the Public Health Laboratory Results Workgroup has been drafting an Initiative Charter for ONC approval. The Initiative Charter will outline the approach to develop use case requirements and harmonize health IT (HIT) standards for public health reporting with the HIT standards used in the clinical information exchanges. Pending ONC’s approval, the Workgroup will expand its scope to support public health data exchanges with clinical care in other public health domains related to health IT standards (e.g., maternal and child health, vital statistics, chronic diseases, medical products, immunization, smoking status, surveillance, etc, )
