During 2007 and 2008, 169 HIV infections were classified as incidence

cases in Colorado. STI/HIV surveillance data obtained during partner

service interviews were used to characterize persons who acquired

their HIV infection within the previous five months. We examined

demographics, geographical location, previous history of a STI

diagnosis, behavioral risk factors, and venues in which persons met

their sex partners. Over 43 percent had been diagnosed with a STI

within the previous 24-months indicating a greater likelihood of unsafe

sexual behavior. Using GIS we are able to better target prevention

efforts to geographical areas most affected by STI and HIV.
