Planned Parenthood's Male Involvement Project in South Texas demonstrates a replicable, cost effective strategy to increase male utilization of health services including STD screening in a family planning clinic. The Project serves low-income Hispanic males. During a five year study from 2003 to 2008, male patients increased from 250 to 1,350 annually with 90% receiving STD testing. At follow-up, males reported increased awareness of asymptomatic STDs, of links between STDs and risk of HIV, and importance of partner treatment. The project includes outreach to 25,000 males through community partnerships, innovative promotion activities, and integration of STD and family planning services.
