Pennsylvania’s Electronic Disease Reporting project, PA-NEDSS, is Pennsylvania’s response to a national initiative to allow the medical community to report diseases and investigative findings to the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) through a secure Internet connection.  The system was deployed to improve the timeliness and accuracy of disease reporting and expand the public health infrastructure while simultaneously improving the state’s response to public health threats. The system includes integrated electronic lab reporting (ELR), surveillance, case management, and graphical reporting/analytical tools. It is currently the only statewide mandated reporting system for STD, TB, Epidemiology, Lead, and HIV/AIDS surveillance.
