Objective:To provide an overview of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) legislative priorities for 2010.  This panel presentation consisting of the Director of Federal Government Relations and the Director of State government Relations will present the details of ADA’s legislative priorities and challenges.  Participants will learn how ADA’s legislative priorities are developed.  Participants will also learn what the ADA legislative priorities are for 2010 and how they can partner with the ADA in advocating on behalf of people with diabetes.

Methods:This work shop will address the ADA’s Legislative priorities that are developed each year through ADA’s volunteer leadership structure. 

Results:

  • Understand the advocacy agenda of the American Diabetes Association
  • Identify opportunities to partner with the ADA regarding diabetes public policy.

Conclusion:Participants should be able to identify key health policy issues being considered by the ADA that will affect patients with diabetes; and explore the critical role that the public health sector can play in crafting sound public policy for people with diabetes.
