Objective: To assess current practices related to the prevention of type 2 diabetes among persons with prediabetes in healthcare systems in California

Methods: The California Diabetes Program is developing an online survey to be administered in early 2010 to assess current practices related to the prevention of type 2 diabetes among persons with prediabetes in healthcare systems in California. Representatives from healthcare organizations, community clinics, county departments of public health, and quality improvement organizations will participate in the development and distribution of the survey to appropriate stakeholders throughout the state using an online survey format.

Results: The survey will address current practices related to the diagnosis of prediabetes, intervention strategies, barriers to expanding diabetes prevention activities, and organizational needs to facilitate this work. Results of the survey will be analyzed and a report developed to inform the future activities of the California Diabetes Program related to primary prevention.

Conclusion: Conducting a stakeholder survey is the first step in the process of initiating the planning of DPCP diabetes prevention activities. Involving diverse stakeholders in the development of the survey helps ensure data are collected that are representative of the full range of ongoing prevention activities and organizations in the state and also helps to promote awareness and buy-in for future DPCP diabetes prevention projects.
