Tuesday, August 11, 2015: 2:00 PM-3:30 PM
Centennial I/II
This session describes tools and approaches that public health communicators and marketers can use in addressing health problems in underserved communities. The HP2020 Health Disparities Tool is a web-based resource that can provide detailed comparisons of data on HP2020 goals by sex, race/ethnicity, educational attainment, and family income to help develop policy, research, and programmatic interventions. This presentation will describe the tool and how attendees can use it in their own work. One way to reach underserved people and build community support is through the businesses in their community. CDC and FHI 360 describe the development and use of videos to make the case for prevention to small business owners in three communities. Promotores de Salud (community health workers) play an important role in health promotion in Hispanic/Latino communities, and a range of resources exist for organizations implementing promotores programs. Todos Promotores Clearinghouse presenters will describe the methods and findings of research to inform the development of the clearinghouse’s website architecture and functionality.
