Today's public health information systems can no longer exist in isolation, they need to be integrated and leverage existing resources to focus on flexibility and responsiveness and increase adaptability and efficiency. New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has been developing a set of core services for public health information exchange using service-oriented architecture paradigm and emerging NHIN services and specifications. This presentation describes how NYSDOH extended the existing PHINMS infrastructure to provide a common data transport services shared across the organization for data exchange with public health partners. Different systems and groups of user can utilize this service through an extensive and easy to use connector library while hiding differences of endpoints and access protocols. In addition, the PHINMS connector library also provide interoperability between PHINMS with other data transport protocols and services so each individual system do not have to develop seperate, uncoordinate point to point data communications.
