Electronic laboratory reporting is mandated in NYC and BSTDCP receives > 20,000 electronic reports/month.  High volume and increasing reliance on electronic reporting required a flexible system to automatically process electronic data.  NYC transitioned from STD*MIS to Maven for surveillance and case management in late 2010 to accomplish this need.

Maven configuration and implementation is extremely resource intensive.  Maven advantages include: handling large volumes of electronic data, customizability and flexibility.  Challenges: converting STD*MIS data, NYC first local jurisdiction to use Maven, and first to configure STD case management module, significant departure from STD*MIS paradigm requiring extensive staff training.
